| Access Ramps Access Ramp Installation:
Access Ramps Must be constructed in accordance with section 3.8.8.4 of the Ontario Building Code. Some of the critical specifications are:1) The minimum width between handrails must be 2 - 10 2) The maximum gradient or slope is 1:12. This means that the ramp must be 1 long for every inch of rise 3) There must be a level area 5 long and at least the same width of ramp at intervals of not more than 29 - 6 as well as whenever there is an abrupt change in the ramps direction 4) There must be handrails set 3 above the surface of the ramp on both sides of the ramp
HANDRAILS:Are provided to assist in balance and transfer. In many instances, a grab bar can double as a handrail. It is essential that the transfer abilities of each customer be taken into consideration when determining the correct position for placement of any handrails. MATERIALS: Residential access ramps are traditionally constructed of wood but can be made of other materials such as concrete or molded plastic. They can even be made to blend in with a home landscaping design. |
